Shot a big one at LBL

It's been a tough hunt. Since Saturday evening I've seen 5 deer. Long story, but I shot a really nice 10 point this evening that was with a doe. He's the biggest buck I've seen while hunting. He ducked my arrow so it hit him high. He crashed hard after running 50 yards, got up, blew 3 times and walked off with my arrow stuck in him. I didn't even try to pursue him. Headed back in the morning.

Odd that he crashed after running that far if it was a non fatal shot. The blowing could have possibly been him trying to breathe, seen that before. Good luck!!

I shot a big 12 point in 2011 and he did the blowing thing but I watched blood fly out of his nose when he did it. Good luck but sounds like you got lung to me

Good luck man! I've heard people say before if they blow they will live, but One of my biggest deer I put I a perfect shot on and and he acted like he was never hit. He jumped and ran about thirty yds stopped, looked around and blew a couple times before he ran off. I left him over night and found him not thirty more yds from where I last saw him last. Looking forward to pics.

Good luck! Hopefully he crashed and it was a diffrent deer blowing.

sounds like you hit him right above the scapula and either pinned them down causing him to fall, or possibly grazed the spine causing him to drop.

your only hope is that you got one lung and you find him after 500 yards, or hit just under the spine and got the vena cava or aorta (in which case he'll be down in 50 yards.

but honestly, I suspect you hit just above the spine, shocked him, he dropped, but will fully recover and you'll only find a few drops of muscle blood before it rapidly peters out.

Regardless, good luck with the search tomorrow! I truly hope you find him.
