Have any of you other guys noticed that you shoot much better at live animals than you do at targets? I generally shoot about every other day and have good and bad days like most folks do. When I'm shooting at a living critter though it seems that I'm much more focused, so I get better accuracy. Some days I wonder if I can even hit my target and then turn right around and kill squirrels and deer without even thinking about it. Maybe that's it though; I'm not thinking about it.

I'm probably a little more opposite. I find myself studying the animal, looking for clues as far as alertness, etc. then the next thing I know the arrow is on it's way without me focusing on a good spot. I also get so concerned about the 'right shot' that I miss my best shot opportunity.

I will say that I'm really careful about what shot I take. I can kill them if they'll hold still, but those walking shots are my downfall. In fact I won't even attempt them anymore. My first post kinda sounds like I meant that I never miss, but that isn't the case. I've missed a few and every one has been walking. If I'm target shooting I think myself to death. Am I anchored good? Am I pulling with my back? Do I have the right sight picture? All those thoughts kill me when I'm practicing, but when game comes along I just shoot without all the mental drama.

Nothing wrong with that amigo. Knowing our limitations and holding off till it's right is part of traditional archery. Self imposed limits are part of the allure for me.
