Shocking beans?

Have 3 rows of kentucky wonders, and blue lakes ( I think) that have produced a grand total of 5 beans this year.

They are head high, lush and green. During the heat wave they had tons of blooms but no beans produced. I think they just baked off.

Now the plants look great and have a few blooms but no beans. Can I shock them into producing with some kind of fertilizer?

Or do I just rip them out and feed em to the cows?

Heat's hard on green beans. I don't even grow them during the summer here for that reason.

With the above normal heat you've had, I would think that's the most likely culprit.

The other option would be just a little too much nitrogen fertilizer. Legumes don't need a lot. Year before last I had the most beautiful patch of crowder peas for four months that never produced enough pods to even try to pick.

I could see nitrogen being a potential problem in the straw bales but we only put 10-10-10 on the stuff in the dirt.

Our soil contains little available nutrients so Its probably the heat and not fertilizer that has them whacked out.

Try rattlesnake beans next year. We had good success with them in the heat.

Picked about a quart or so off our short row of bush beans.

I think I may just yank the climbing beans out and feed em to the cows. Till up those 3 rows and plant a bush variety if I can find some seed.

The scallopini squash is kicking. Purple hulls have produced nicely and the holstein peas are doing well. If they don't put on a second picking, we will probably pull them up and plant something else for a late crop.

Peanuts are ready to be hilled. Got some blooms and runners on them.

Looks like the garden will produce about 1/4 of last year overall even though its 25% bigger.

Update.
Went to pull up the pole beans and there are some tiny beans on them! Guess I give it a week and see if they start to produce.

Skeeters are a horror! Egads it was like fishing in the Everglades this morning.
