Shipping Venison

I have a friends that live in TX. They would like for me to send some TN venison. I'm OK with sending jerkey and summer sausage. My question: If vacummed packed would it be alright to send tenderloins without freezing. Want to be sure the proper shipping method.

Why don't you want to freeze it? If frozen and packed in a cooler it will make the trip fine. Otherwise you would have to pack it in ice which will add to the weight.
BTW, if you plan on sending it by airplane the last time I heard most if not all airlines will not allow dry ice unless it is an approved container which allows the C02 to be vented off..
On a hunting trip to Texas several years ago I had my deer processed, frozen and put in a 48 quart cooler. It was still frozen rock solid when I got it home.

I know that I bought some alligator from a company in Louisiana and they sent it in one of those 1 1/4 thick styrofoam containers and had some kind of ice block thing in there with the somewhat still frozen stuff. I think that freezing it and over nighting it would be your best bet. You could get some of those things for your cooler that you freeze and throw in with them.

I never said Omaha used dry ice but they have really good coolers lol,I ordered some buffalo 1 time & it was shipped with dry ice,didnt know it was considered hazmat,

I think the Dry ice regulation is relatively new...well about 10-15 years "new".

Freeze it solid, precool the styrofoam cooler, then pack the meat in the cooler and top off with block ice, not ice cubes. It will still be frozen when they get it.

Dry ice is frozen CO2. It sublimes directly from a solid to a gas, and can quickly overcome oxygen in a confined space. I think the undeclared oxygen bottles shipped in a ValuJet flight back in the mid-90's changed the way hazmats were handled in air freight.

Remember the one that just fell into the Florida swamps somewhere in the neighborhood of 1996? Improperly shipped oxygen bottles popped off directly underneath the cockpit, and brought the whole plane down.

I always order Blood Sausages from Ireland for St Patty's Day. This is how they ship:

All our meats are vacuum sealed, we then pack them with freezer packs/dry ice and bubble wrap to keep them cold inside a sealed FDA approved Styrofoam container.

I don't think there was dry ice last time. I believe they were just in the Styrofoam, shipped 2nd day air.

Anyway, I would just freeze the meat and ship it in a cheap cooler.

Considering I'll be sending it from Mwmphis to Ft Worth freeze it solid place in cheep cooler and send it. It would only take a couple of days max, sending it down in Nov won't have to worry about 80* temps.

If they were in the eastern part of the state I'm making at least 3 trips this hunting season. I could get as much as you want to Waxahachie I'm pretty sure.
