For those that are interested, the Shell Crackers appear to be doing their thing right now. Caught a couple limits this past weekend in Middle Tennessee. Most were 18"-24" deep on the bed. Had to weed through 10-15 bluegills to catch a single Redear. The females were laying eggs and not remotely interested. The males took a lot of persistence to get to bite and I assume they will turn on better in a couple days when they are guarding the eggs/fry. Absolutely wouldn't eat anything under a bobber. Pretty well had to make repeated pitches with a weightless nightcrawler right on their nose to get the males to bite. Really considering breaking out the step ladder next time out to see if I cant get a better look at the deeper beds.
