Has anyone that got drawn for Shelby Forest hunted there this year yet? Just wondering how you did. I have it this week/weekend.
 
I was talking about ducks, but thanks for the reply. I've heard that the hogs have the ground tore up in Shelby forest.
 
When I was in High school we used to hunt eagle lake and behind the swimming pool. But I bet it's nice not having to fight for spots now
 
You should be just right Huffman. I will be down there this weekend to hunt too. My uncle said eagle lake has more water right now than he has ever seen. Going to be some tough hunting for us it seems.

I went to the sanctuary in Shelby forest, and it's still holding a good number of birds. Maybe we can have a decent hunt.
 
Considering the weather, I'd say we did pretty good. Worked a good bit of birds and killed 8. Should have had more but we did some poor shooting and made some bad calls. That's part of duck hunting though.
 
Hunted it Thursday Friday and today. Only killed 3 today. The guys in hole 7 didn't like the birds working us and high balled the ducks until the ducks finally left. We didn't kill the 3 ducks that we did kill until those guys left.
 
Some guys came in at 7:30 and hunted 9 on Thursday. They stayed for about 2 hours and never came back. 9 was empty Friday and Saturday.
 
I got drawn for # 6, but it's not until January. I haven't done much duck hunting period, but have a couple of buddies who will be mentoring me a bit.

I hadn't heard anything about the hogs until just now. My dad found a wallow several years back, and the park ranger then made a big deal about it. Apparently they are increasing in number.

Have any of you actually laid eyes on them in daylight, or is it just night-time damage?

Wondering if they will allow exceptions to the no-kill rules in the future...
 
Saw it first hand on Saturday afternoon. It's awful how bad it has gotten. Anywhere there is an oak tree the ground is tore to pieces from the hogs. TWRA needs to make it open season on those bad boys! I'm afraid of what will happen there if they don't do it soon!

I guess there are no eradication hunts there?

Nope. I had one at 15 yards during the flood. Called the local officer and he told me I was not allowed to kill it unless it was threatening my life. I understand he was following the rules so I'm not blaming him at all, but it's pretty idiotic that you can't kill feral pigs if you ask me.

Anybody have a duck hunting report from Shelby Forest?

I am drawn for this coming weekend. Some buddies of mine hunted last weekend and had a rough time staying dry and warm in the rain. The weather looks OK for now (at least they aren't saying a high of 60 degrees on Thursday).
 
Have hunted there the last two weeks for a total of 6 hunts. Had a Grassy Draw this last weekend and totaled 2 Wood ducks from all hunts combined. Lets just say im ready to fish....
