Thank you all for the nice wishes on what is nothing but luck. I had a bull tag 2 years ago and funny thing is that many residents there go years without getting drawn for a bull tag in that 590 unit.

I lost my Dad on June 9th and I know he has had something to do with this. He is for sure smiling today.

Now on top of a bull tag I find out I also drew an antelope tag in the 530 Unit of Montana which I was shut out on last year. Last year I applied as a party applicant with two long-time friends who were most generous with their time and effort in helping my Dad move out of his home into an apartment and then move him from his apartment to an assisted living complex. To repay them I helped them apply with me last year and we were shut out in the antelope draw. This year, I applied individually and also applied with them so even if they were drawn i could be camp cook and help drag and gut those smelly antelope. Low and behold, neither of them were drawn and I was fortunate to draw! Cherish the good fortune I am. It is almost like Dad is paying me back for the last few months of his life in doing so much for him. This 2011 fall campaign will be dedicated to his life and memory.

Well congrads on the Bull mtns permit. I guess this year was a preference point building year for me struck out in 410. I guess a change of scenery was inevitable so I am going to check into the belts or little belts. Good luck this should be the year for big antlers with all the moisture they have had!
 
I don't know about being "deserving" of a great bull but I sure put in alot of time and effort to get me into country that could hold a massive bull. Of course time and hard work don't equal success because it is hunting and there is a degree of "luck" involved, you know that well, right place right time.

As things are firming up I made the decision to give myself a birthday present. Turning 58 in December and knowing that the wolf lovers of the world are raising money faster than Obama to shut down wolf seasons in the West I went ahead last Sunday and purchased a Montana wolf tag. Spent $350 for an opportunity to put a tag on a wolf. Cheaper than going to Alaska and will put me in some territory in Montana to look over and scout maybe for a future hunting trip. I met a gal on a Montana business trip afew years ago, she was going to sit next to me and asked me to hold her Starbucks coffee until she got in her seat and strapped in. I kept in touch with her via Facebook and email over the years knowing that maybe, just maybe a wolf season might be approved. Low and behold, she is friends with some ranchers who have had wolf problems with livestock in the past. So instead of flying back with my sons after our elk/deer combination hunt i will stay a few more days in western Montana and try to down a big furry canine! Would love to get a full-body mount with some snarling teeth and those beady eyes! Hey, a guy can dream can't he? For all the time spent across our country in wolf country I only saw one wild wolf (outside of the "tame" ones in Yellowstone National Park where every traffic jam in the Lamar Valley is a wolf pack) in British Columbia way back in 1978. Saw a million tracks and heard them howl in norhern Minnesota but never actually saw them in the wild. Maybe I will get lucky and slap a tag on one and have a big fat taxidermy bill. Stranger things have happened and I would love to have that bill from a good taxidermist! Stay tuned, I will take plenty of pictures along the way.
 
I don't know the first thing about Montana units, so what part of the state is 590 in? My Uncle put in for somewhere just below Miles City around the Powder River, but they weren't drawn. They did get Deer tags however for Muley or Whitetail. I may have the chance to go next year, so just curious what Units are where.
