Walked a couple miles today, the only antlers we saw were still attached to a 6 & 8 pt we jumped. I have never really had much luck finding any sheds

Found 6 yesterday several still holding on our places. Keep looking most days are a bust but you never know.

They're all still holding here. I walked 29 miles this week with only 1 fresh shed. Seen lots of big deer still holding racks. I'm gonna sit out a few more weeks before I look anymore.

I can honestly say I've found more not shed hunting than I have while shed hunting.

I can honestly say I've found more not shed hunting than I have while shed hunting.

For years, same with me. But maybe for the past decade, I've found more sheds each spring by purposefully looking, although much of that is while turkey hunting. Develop and keep an eye out for them, and you can find quite a few while turkey hunting.

I'm finding about 80% of what I find annually by purposefully looking mid-February thru mid-April. Most of the others are while mowing or squirrel hunting during late summer, early fall. Many of the ones I find in February were actually shed in the prior year, I suspect mostly in late March and quickly camouflaged by fast-growing vegetation (mainly honeysuckle & briars).

Lots of factors coming into play.
First, despite my thinking the shedding may be on average a week or two earlier this year (Stewart Co.), maybe half the bucks still have their antlers as of March 1st. Waiting to look sounds logical.

On the other hand, as stuff starts growing, the sheds become harder to see. Then there is the issue of coyotes finding them before you, rabbits & squirrels chewing on them, etc. But sure is frustrating to spend all day looking, only to later check some cams and see most bucks still have their antlers.
