I like about 200 havin the cash for my next rig..

lookin for a medium range cheap to shoot sniper rifle..I have settled on a 9 twist 223 and plan on shooting the 75 gr Hornady BTHP,,

I am gonna put a M8 12X AO Leupold scope on it.

it is down to the Rem 700 VTR and the CZ 527 Varmint Walnut,,I have never shot a CZ centerfire,and the last couple Rem 700`s have had major issues ,

but lookin at the rifle Carlos Hathcock used the CZ with the Walnut stock and straight power scope is virtually a mini clone of the Win M70 30-06 he used,,

it is really hard for me to order a rifle unseen and I have asked this here before,,but can anybody give me any sensible reason not to buy the CZ instead of the Rem,,the price are pretty close,,

if the guy makin payment on the RUM comes through I will have the money by late tomorrow,so I plan to order Weds,,

I am hearing alot of grumbling about the new Rem's. I do think I will start buying any good deals on the older 700's. You can always make them what you want. I would do the CZ or go custom on an older 700.

I think I will go CZ also,,mainly for the Walnut /dark bluing and the set trigger,,



I really want the Walnut and Blue 9 twist 223 with the straight 12X scope would be an awesome ,,this rifle will be my porch gun where I have shots all around in the 275-400 yard range,

why not, go for it. in the vietnam era, unless you were in the Army and issued a M21, the rest of the snipers used converted hunting rifles.

i swapped to a stright 10x scope on my 308. i think that maybe a fun way to go

Find a 700 LTR on snipershide/ 24h campfire. It may take a couple months, but they are out there.

Typically used ones fetch around $700, they come with a 9 twist, 20"bbl, but have the nice HS stock.

I bought one unfired/new a couple years ago off snipershide for $650, and have been more than pleased with it. In fact, I liked it so much I bought a used one in .308 a few months back (still haven't shot it yet, too darn hot down here until this morning)

CZ all the way IMO. But Im about as far away from a Remmy fan as you can get. Plus I have never seen or heard of a CZ that needed anything done to it to make it shoot. If you are stuck on Rem, then I would look at an older one, the new ones are absolute junk that Rem should be ashamed to put their name on.

I have both Rem and CZ and both have their pros and cons. If you ever plan on re-barreling a CZ, make sure your 'smith is setup to handle metric threads. As you know, Rem. are the small block Chevys in the arms industry. With the CZ, the rings sit a little higher due to bolt clearance. I don't think you can go wrong with either. If it isn't what you want, send it on down the road.

cz. nothing like them. if you are going 223, you would be crazy not to go with the cz action, since it is a true micro action designed for a 223 length case, not a 308 length case like a 700 or a model 7 for that matter. i own some remmys and like them, but not in the same class as cz. all my cz's have worked hard in teh field and on the bench and are the 2 most accurate guns i have ever shot

here is 108 yard 3 shot group with my cz 527 that measured just over .38. that is with factory rem. ammo and is not the best group i have ever shot with it, just one day i thought to take a pic

here is a 52 yard group from last yr, as i was experimenting with different types of bulk walmart ammo that i was going to squirrel hunt with. it is a 6 shot and 7 shot group

I have been to many 600 and fewer 1000 yd benchrest events. There is a factory class allowed in these events. There is 1 brand rifle that dominates these events, and its not Remington or the funky CZ`s. Savage is making the finest shooting out of the box rifles on the planet. It may take a Mothers love to own one, but if accuracy is part of the plan you better get on board. I have a Digital Camo 223 9" twist, a 10FP 223 w/9" twist, 6.5/284 w/8 twist, a 260 Predator w/8 twist in the shop now. I also have a F/Class 6BR w/8 twist. Not trying to sell you anything from Avery, but I do the ordering and believe in Savage all the way. Remington is still a fine quality on most models, the box store guns are ugly, but not junk. I have a special run 7STW that has a beautiful matte finish like the incredible CDL. Listen to shooters not bullshooters.

Tim I value your opinion a bunch..and accuracy is the only plan.the only reason I was lookin at the CZ is I have shot 3-4 Rem 700`s that were bought new in the last 18 months or so that just would not shoot better than .750 at 100 yards..

I just want something that is cheap to shoot and will handle at least the 75 gr bullets and anything heavier would be nice.

I see the 12 VLP is made with a 7 twist in 223,,

the 80 gr AMax with 25 grs of powder,would fit the ticket real nice if it would shoot.

i have never been that desperate to shoot anything that i would resort to a savage. Except for the smokeless muzzleloaders of course

Eric, woke up thinking about a different idee. Its time to consider this while you have a stash saved up. Pull the trigger on ordering an action. The 223 has a .378" boltface. A company like Stiller offers Remington footprint actions like the Predator, you could later order a .473" bolt body and have 2 bolts for the same action. I know the components for 223 are so cheap thats your reasoning and they are very accurate. I myself want an 8" twist 22 Krieger matched to my .473" boltface action and build a 22BR. I am hearing great things about another action company Defiance. Kelbly and Borden also make repeater actions that are a Remington footprint. Please consider this, as since I got away from buying a whole new rifle each time, now I just order a new barrel. You only buy the action once, as well as the stock, bedding and with such a flexible firearm, then you can justify a very high end optic because you dont need 4 of them.

ive been doing this as well with my savage actions for years. a good supplier for savage actions and barrels is northlander supply. he is a direct supplier from savage and can get about anything you want, plus he usually has take off barrels and actions as well at pretty good prices.
