Who's self filming their hunts this year? First time, or been doing it a while?

It's not my first time but I'm nowhere near a pro. Just got this new camera yesterday - it's a Lumix V250 camcorder that records in 1080 HD, has a 90x zoom, stereo mic, and WiFi so you can control it remotely from a smartphone. Takes an SD card. Best part it's only a $250 camera. I'm hoping to get some decent footage this year. The camera arm is strapped on with a ratchet strap for public land since you can't screw into a tree. It's called a Yukon Tracks or something like that from sportsmans guide.

I've done it a lot before. Just about that same setup. Carrying it in and out was what got old to me and why I quit doing it. I'll carry just the handy cam around here and there though

Both are nice cameras. I have the HFS30 and its awesome.

I'll be self filming for the first time this year. I used a Sony Handycam for turkey season in spring but I don't think I'm going to be satisfied with its performance in the deer woods. I think I'm gonna look into your new setup Catman. My camera arm is a big game cheapo bit it wasa gift so I'm gonna use it.

Any of you vets got any pointers to pass on...?

Just from what ive studied is dont zoom in all the time less zoom is better for kill shots also constantly zooming in and out .....mount camera on the side of your body that you shoot with ie right hand shooters mount camera on right side there are others....im hoping ruger adds a self filming category. For extended discussion on self filming setups what works what doesnt reviews on cameras, users can share self film videos etc.

I just started this past turkey season. Was able to get 1 bird down on camera! The only problem I had with that camera was battery life. Order an extra battery to take with you in the field. Good luck!

that's pretty much what I do. I can't keep the camera on a deer constantly while preparing for a shot, so it's better to be zoomed out a little. Just zoom in enough to see more detail but give the animal room to walk before it leaves the screen. And I also mount the camera on my right side and shoot right handed. Works pretty well but then actually getting the kill shot on camera is up to practicing and getting better at it.

Bought a camera this spring and filmed several kills of other people and only time I tried to self film I missed the kill shot. It was the biggest bird of the year and with a my bow on top of that. We are going to try to film some this fall but still have to get an arm.
