Seeking private land Williamson County for Archery

Good morning hunters.

Live in Williamson County - moved to TN about 2 years ago - and looking to connect with private land owner that would consider allowing me to archery hunt. Have a couple young boys too that I want to teach proper hunting conservation with me. If you know anyone that would consider talking with me, please reply directly.

Welcome to the site. Good luck on your search. Williamson County is tough to find private ground and this site is probably not where you will find it.....

Good luck, it's not easy getting a place to hunt here in Williamson. Helps to know someone, or ask a whole lot of people.

I have said for years that a younger person with the drive and commitment to do so, could possibly build a suburban bowhunters association with a select membership and guidelines to follow that could possibly approach some HOA's, suburban/urban legislative bodies, land developers and offer the services of said association to address deer numbers in an agreed and structured manner that would be agreeable to all parties. A statewide association (grown regionally and then nationally or linked to other associations across the country)from Memphis to the Tri Cities would be of value.

The more growth that happens the less places to hunt there will be. Saw it happen in GA

Welcome to the site.....I don't have any connections in Williamson County.....and like others have mentioned....it's likely going to be a challenge....but for certain.... without asking you will never gain permission....so good luck! When you go...take your young sons with you, and explain your desire to train your boys in sound conservation....also offer to help out with any chores around the property in the off season...pick up hay....pick up limbs.... general clean up....etc.....never hurts to ask.....and don't overlook small tracts either....they likely get less knocks at the door verses larger farms.

I agree having your sons to take hunting just might get you permission. Although it's likely you will ask a lot of people before anyone ever says yes. There's more hunters in Williamson county than you would think, so a lot of good spots are already taken.

You can get you a nice "starter farm" for a cool $1.2M....should yield you about 10 acres hardwood and maaaaybe 5-10 acres of revenue pasture. Shoot...I may go by two!!

Oh, i know the land market. Buy and sell quite a bit. You dont have to pay 1.2 million for a small rural williamson county farm.

That's cheap and in a great area. Hopefully I can find something similar by the time I am ready to purchase some ground

edit: after looking on OnX, it looks like good woods, but right up against 840. I'd have to see it in person to decide if it was worthwhile. I saw a listing this year for 73 acres in Celina for $69k, that's about 2 hours from me but it's cheap land.

It's not great over here. look up registered sex offenders on Davis Hollow. It's insane how many there are

I still think it will be decent some day. Maybe not soon but someday. I'd buy land out there if it was prime hunting land and a good price

The problem with Williamson Co is the genetics. They are too good... which attracts too much pressure. Combine that with the proximity to a major population center and it gets flooded with hunters.

If you just want to have fun hunting with your boys, you can get into some decent hunting an hours drive away by leasing or knocking on doors.

And I agree with redblood... buy land in middle TN. Its one of the best investments you can make. Im sick at what I could have bought land for back in the mid 90s... when I was living on rice and beans and thought $1000 per acre was outrageous.

It's not just genetics, it's also highly fertile soil and lack of hunting pressure compared to surrounding counties. A lot of the hunters in Williamson will let young bucks walk, and a lot of landowners don't allow hunting, so the deer get older. It's not the same across the whole county, some areas are better than others.

Lot of old farmers here are scared of getting sued by someone who gets hurt on their property. Just the way it goes around here.

True. That's not just here. That's the case in a lot of places. Sad that we've come to the point where a person steps in a pothole on someone else's property after getting permission to hunt it, then sues the landowner because he tore a ligament in his ankle. Just not right, but it happens.
