How many lbs. per acre of seed corn does it take? The seed size is F1.

Isn't is like 25 to 30lbs to an acres. Best I recall One bag should plant a little over 2 acres and a piece

Does it tell you seed per pound?? I just looked on Iowa state page and it recommened on 30 inch rows, 34 to 38,000 seed per acre.

1 seed every 6 inches on 38 inch rows

broad casting I would suggest 30,000 +/- seed per acre

on broadcasting you can mix seed with fertilizer, cut the rate in 1/2 and go over area 2 times, this takes a little more time but is worth the effort

Haven't got a planter. Was planning on broadcasting it.

Some advice. Tried broadcasting twice. Terrible results. Beg, borrow, or buy a planter.

Around here the going rate is 27000-32000 for grain. A lot of it depends on your ground and variety of seed. A bag of seed has 80000 seed in it. It will show on the bag how many lbs are in a bag which varies by seed size. That is for reference for farmers to know how many seed per lb there is to set various planters. Broadcasting for deer I would probably back the population down some. The thicker it is the taller it will get. The main thing is try to cover the seed at least 1 inch deep.

If you don't mind me asking since this is the QDM forum and your user id makes me believe you are a quality deer hunter, why in the world do you want to plant corn? Corn IMO is the worse thing to plant for quality deer. It provides nothing for the deer all summer since the deer rarely eat the plant.

The seed where free. We also turkey hunt. We will leave it standing for late winter food. Its in the middle of 600 acres of clear cut so there is plenty for the deer to eat in the summer. It is late winter when they need it the most. Its only about 10% of our food plots.
I think soybean man has the best seed when it comes to the best year around food plot. We plan on planting 2 acres of those, if we can get our fence up.

I used 20 lbs/acre last year broadcast. Worked well. I did everything by the book, soil sample, fertilized by soil sample, etc.

Corn might not be the best for summer forage,.. but you can add quail haven climbing soybeans with it and provide that summer forage. For fall/winter forage,.. IMO there is nothing better than corn,...NOTHING!! If you have a big enough spot,.. corn is like acorns,.. it provides valuable carbs to the deer herd for the winter,.. keeping fat on them all winter long,.. making them a step ahead for spring build up from what they lost during winter stress. If i had 5 acres i could plant,.. it would be in corn/soybean mix. Most managers have focused on protein to much in their plots,.. protein is mostly pooped out and not absorbed into the body of a deer,.. but fall/winter carbs are fat builders,.. which is crucial in those winter stress months,.. even in tn!!
