They still have to play a team from a power 4 conference also. I'm not sure how all will shake out yet but I like the last one. Playing every SEC every 2 years and going to every SEC stadium every 4 years is cool. Texas A&M joined the conference in 2012 and Georgia still has never played at Kyle Field.

Ok so the 3 every season opponent will be interesting. which teams get what?

I'm sure Miss state will play ol miss and LSU and possibly AL. The 3 rivals will be interesting though.

I would hate to lose The Third Saturday in October. It'll be tough to lose rivalries.

I was watching Paul Finebaum yesterday when the news broke,they had Sankey to reveal it to the audience.He also said strenght of schedule would come in to play,losing to a highly ranked team would not hurt you but if you beat a highly ranked team it will help you.Everyone knows SEC teams play the toughest schedule in the Country and I sure like this change!

I'd like to see Tennessee keep Florida and/or Georgia. Having both Kentucky and Vandy is light.

We only allow Vandy to remain in the SEC to play baseball, some basketball once in awhile, and spoiler for Bama once every century
I see your point but TN v ky and Tn v vandy 2 of the 4 oldest series of all conference teams

Just because it's old doesn't mean it's good. Do you really get fired up to watch the UK or Vandy game? Last year was the first time I actually enjoyed watching the Vandy game in years and that was only because Pavia shot his mouth off so much. Usually not must see TV. I see where you're coming from but if we have to trim some things out, I'd rather trim the games that are usually not as intriguing.

They've got a nice lil baseball program for sure. There are a lot of factors that make that the case that I won't go into here. Chief among them, baseball is a cheaper program to run.

I see that also. Alabama had a long series with Miss St but lost it for LSU.
How is one to determine what might be a good match up years down the road? A team that is good now might be terrible in 5 years, history proves that. Most all teams go thru cycles of good and bad. I guess most of the younger fans think Fl.and GA are long time rivals due to the last 33 years that they have played each year. Prior to 1992 they played sparingly. Some suggest that South Carolina should be one as they are "better" than Ky. But when looking at history of SC since they joined SEC in their percentages is almost equal to Ky over the same time period, yet a lot of people don't realize it.
So i guess someone will have to come up what is "historical" rivalries. Is it last 10 yrs? 25 yrs? Or the complete historical games they played.

I think I can predict whether or not Vandy will be good down the road with a decent degree of certainty considering they are NEVER good. I'm just saying of everyone we could drop, those would be the two (based on the last 30 yrs) that seem like the ones we'd wanna drop.
VU has had good baseball teams but their advantage of having their endowment paying for bb players is all but gone now that scholarship #s increased and of course NIL changes. Both of these changes negate VUs prior advantage. The on field product has been seen the last couple years

I'd agree with that. I still think they have a decent rep to recruit with but they aren't the same Vandy baseball of 10 yrs ago.
Yep! I'd be ok with bama, Kentucky (if they can play for the beer barrel again), and Florida. Could flip flop Vandy for Kentucky too.

Wins count no matter the opponent, so I am glad to keep Vandy and Kentucky, it's gonna be tough playing 6 other conference teams each year.I do hope we keep Alabama as a rival every year!

That's just a projection, it's not been set yet. Miss state has played bama forever before they did this recent split. Saban and the talent has always had our number. Things have changed and everyone in the sec is beatable now.
I could see miss state getting bama, ole miss and LSU. All 3 are ranked every preseason no matter how they finished the previous season.
It hasn't been a rivalry between miss state and bama in a long time, with ALs prefect track record against us in football since 2006/2007.
We've upset LSU a handful of times and we go back and forth with ole miss but that's not been the case bama.
They've always escaped the seldom threats of upset we've had a chance at.
Bama doesn't let us win in football and we don't let them win any series in baseball. There has to be some level of back and forth to really make it seem like a rivalry.
I don't consider bama a rival in baseball because they aren't a threat. They haven't taken a series against us in such a long time. I have to imagine it's the same as bama fans would look at a football game against miss state, we haven't been much of a threat and we are easier sec win.

That is true. I'm sure that's why Alabama got LSU instead of Miss St in the last split. LSU is a more marquee match up. I just hated losing the Miss St matchup because it was such a long running series. I don't see it as being a big deal either way because they will play every team every other year. The main game I want is Auburn and Tennessee.
When the SEC split the first time it created new rivalries. This time it might do the same.
2015 was the last time Alabama won a series against Miss St in baseball. That series is actually tied at 176 wins each going back to 1930. I thought that was pretty cool.
I'm looking forward to baseball also. I hope Alabama will be better this year.
That's why we watch games IMO. What isn't so much of a rivalry now, could change with the next game. Alabama won every matchup from 2007 to 2021 verses Tennessee. That was a lop sided "rivalry" for a while. Some of those games were over by half time. 2022 that all changed, and again in 2024 to show it wasn't just a miracle fluke. That's why I like NCAA sports vs professional sports...the fun of unpredictability.
