I was thinking the same thing.
TN left 1/2 the play book out against Appy state and it nearly cost them.
It wasn't because UT wanted to go to overtime?? The reason that they had to leave half the play book out was because the OL couldn't block Appy St. A little scary when you consider Appy St. Avg. 250 lbs. across the DL. UT had to get the plays off fast because the rush and that limits the playbook on deep plays and misdirection plays. UT had to do the same with V. Tech. If the line can't block, the playbook is limited. Right now UT is pretty much an option offense with a running qb that can throw bubble screens.
Playing vanlia or only showing half the play book is a myth that fans like to talk about. Teams/coaches would rather open it up and put more on film to make their opponent work harder... :)
