What's the best rings and mount set up for a pre 64 model 70 long action. I was thinking the DNZ 1 pc?

Low. I've got a Zeiss 3-9x40 on a Remington 700 in extra lows but with any other scope I don't think it would work.

My post '64 Model 70 has lows with a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 and has plenty of room for the scope caps.

Here is what Talley Lightweight lows look like on my Pre 64. The scope is 42mm.

Is that a 10600 DNZ model?

The pre 64 I have is a .270 and looks a lot the same. I am thinking a Vortex Viper or Nikon Monarch.

Both good choices. I like the Vortex. That scope is a Sightron SII Big Sky 3-12x42, it's also a good choice. Check out a Minox ZA5 as well.

Here are the picsmof the 3-9x40 Buckmaster in the DNZ low mount. Should easily handle a 42mm Monarch with standard sporter contour barrel (mine's a lightweight contour).
