Putting together a rifle for my dad for his 60th birthday. Bought him a model 7 CDL in 243. So far I have a set of tally rings for it but am having trouble making a decision on a scope. Looking to stay $350 and under on scope. I have looked (any own multiple) vortex and love them. But they my by a little heavy. Would like to hear what u guys have on ur model 7's and what u think.
(Also looking for a zeiss conquest 3-9x40 if anyone has one. Not the HD5, but just the plain old conquest. Europitcs.com has sold out of the demos last I checked)

If you like the Vortex, an original Diamondback would probably work. The 2-7x35 is right at 14 oz. On a .243, the shorter eye relief of the original Diamondback would not be an issue like it might on a heavier recoiling rifle. Plus you could probably find one for under $150

I went with the leupold vx3. I love vortex and will continue to buy from them but I do think leupold' glass is a touch better

VX-3 glass is definitely better than the original Diamondback. That will be a sweet setup for your dad. Congrats!

I have a 3-9 conquest on my Mtn Rifle. They are really fine scopes. Zeiss really backed up when they went to the HD series. Good luck finding a conquest. You might try gun broker.

I have a Nikon Prostaff on my model 7 .243, it's an ADL though.

Going with a Nikon Prostaff 5 for my new Marlin XLR 30 30 with the Leverrevolution bullets. 2.5x10x40mm. Great reviews and I love the Monarch I have on my Winchester 270 wsm now.
