I was given one of my father in laws 30-30s by my brother in laws. It currently has just open sides and is the model with the side ejection.

They stated that he really liked cowboy guns but I think it needs a scope as I would like to hunt with it next season. What scopes are out there that would fit the gun?

I saw Leopold makes some nice fixed power scopes that would look good and do the job but at nearly $300 its a little more than I wanted to spend.

I have a older Redfield 4x fixed, if you are interested...

My 1st choice would be a 2x7 32mm. Second choice fixed 4x. Max objective diameter would be 32mm. Anything bigger will look out of proportion on that rifle and is also not needed if your max magnification is no higher than 7x.

I'll let you chose the brand. With scopes you pretty much get what you pay for regardless of brand. I wouldn't go much under $200 though. Personally I buy Leupold for all my rifles.

You guys are right I should just splurge on the Leopold that 4x fixed would sure fit the style of the gun perfectly.
