scope for 30-30

Need a scope for a Marlin 336.

Thinking about a Redfield Revolution in 2x7x33.

Heard good things about this scope.

Any opinions the size I'm looking at.

Also need some see through scope mounts, any particular brand and best place to buy?
 
May I ask why you want see through mounts? I know a lot of people put them on 30-30s and other guns, but why?
 
It is for my nephew. He will hunt in hardwoods but in some small open fields as well. I want him to be able to use the scope but be confident in using the iron sights if he has a deer come in close. Basically until he gets used to the scope he can use the iron sights which he is used to.
Do you have an opinion as to why not?
 
Mostly just curious.

I would not want one because the lower the scope; the flatter your trajectory is according to the line of sight. Probably not enough to be overly concerned with though.
 
on 2x you can see clearly pretty dang close,,


I just despise the high see thru mounts,,I would either scope it or just use the sights,,but not on the same rifle,,JMO.
 
Well that's why.I.asked the question. It may actually be a bit confusing for him. I would probably rather him get comfortable with a scope since that's all he will.probably use from here on out. Is there a certain type of regular mounts you would suggest and best place to buy.
 
I would get a Weaver one piece base,,and a set of Burris Signature rings.

I use SWFA.com for most of my optics needs.

opticsplanet and cameraland are both good also,,

Should be a great setup with the base and rings

Another advantage of a higer mounted scope is if your hitting 1 1/2 high at 100 yards with a scope thats 2 inches high at the muzzle you have less drop at extended yardages (200-300) then with a scope hitting 1 1/2 high at 100 yards thats setting 1 inch above the muzzle. It may not be alot but every bit helps in my opinion.

Sorry, but that's backwards. You have more drop with a higher mounted scope.

In my opinon it doesn't get any better than this.I had a weaver K2.5 on my 30-30 and it was a nice match.On my current 336 i have a 4X 32mm Bushnell.
 
So im good to go on the scope but the Burris rings are back ordered everywhere,
Will Leupold 1 inch be just as good?
 
Get you some Warne rings and never look back. Far better quality than either the Burris or the Leupolds. They are a lot easier to clamp your scope and keep it level. Order them direct from the factory and you will have them in 3 or 4 days.
See throughs are all junk. If you can even get your scope sighted in you are lucky. I won't mention the line of sight question since it has already been discussed other than to say the lower the better. Teach the youngun to hunt with a scope. The sooner he gets rid of the training wheels the better rider he will be.
I'd mount him a decent 3-9x40 scope with a good eyebox. Let him practice a box or two of ammo and he will be good to go. Kids learn way faster than grownups do.
