One sweet rimfire. A necked down 22 mag @ 2550 fps in 17grn. Goog gun with well place shots on larger varmints. One good thing...ALOT of choices in guns and ammo.
 
A marketing masterpiece for a round that fits very narrow applications- too big and loud for squirrel and rabbit, too light for coyote and with ammo that is as high as 223. A darn good crow and ground hog, just as long as the wind isn't blowing. A favorite of speed demons who will probably will talk about it more than hunt with it.

Same way I felt. Doesn't really do any thing a .22lr won't, definitely doesn't out do the .22mag, and for the same money in ammo, I can use a .223 for the bigger varmints.
 
its not to bad a round for squirrels & rabbits when you take your time to pick a spot,even with the high speed 22 hollow points you will lose meat.most of the 17hmr rifles will be more accurate than a lot of 22's,im not saying they are any more accurate just more of them do print a better group most of the time.this may be due to bullet design & tolerances,they also shoot flatter which makes it easier to guesstimate the distance,the ammo was $10 a box when i bought mine & looked yesterday & they were $17.been awhile since i have bought any rimefire ammo due to to having a good stock,ran low & paid $18 for the fed 40g that i was getting for around $11-$12.its all about choices & they dont make any bad caliburs or rifles just a variety to give folks something different ,
