I do not use them at all.
Like most hunters I tried them all. Cover scents, attracting scents...etc. all were a part of my arsenal for years.
One day I saw a deer react negatively to a scent I had put out. I believe it was doe in heat . The young buck just never seemed comfortable and was a bit spooked once he smelled it. Kind of like the smell was foreign to him. Now, I had used gloves to put the scent out and took all of the precautions that you should, but it didn't help. I began to wonder if he was smelling me or the scent from a deer that he didn't know. maybe a deer that was from up north somewhere eating different foods that we have here and maybe the pee just smelled odd to him?
I'll never know if the young deer smelled me or the new girl on the block or maybe a combination of both. Our skin cells fall off with every step and so it is really no way to put out scent without leaving your own ....imo.
My tactic changed to walking in to my stand away from where I believe the deer will come from. I never cross a trail, if possible and always in as direct a path as possible.
I always try to change as little as I can when hunting. After all, if someone came in to your home and changed something, don't you think you would notice?

No longer use them. I think they are designed to attract hunters in the sporting goods section more than deer in the woods.
Trails end #307. 99% of the guys that say they don't work have no idea how to use them. And the ones that say they are a waste of money most of the time wear 15 grunt tubes around there neck, have a ton of scentlok and wish for a brand new ozonoics machine. :whistle:

I have had deer shy away from them from time to time ,,, BUT I get more pics of more big bucks in mock scrapes than any other way. But I do things a little different than most . First I save tarsal glands, the smellyer? the better from harvested bucks, preferably from a different herd, ie another county or state. I cut them into at least quarters and freeze them. hang one on a limb above your scrape. hang a scent dripper , use a string and pull it up at least 8-10 feet so they cant reach it, then bury a bottle of scent an inch or so under the dirt with the top off. Do all this while remaining as scent free as possible. Do itin the next week or ten days and see what you get. I have some amazing footage by doing this.

Closer to the rut.....I use raccoon now, deer sniff it but do not negatively react to it and on one occasion the deer came running to my trail to the stand like it was wanting to find me......got that one!

I'm a James Valley scent fanatic. I've had so much luck using them since I started 8yrs ago. Wallhanger for pre-rut and Lethal weapon for rut. It is very potent so do not open in doors unless you want a angry spouse. It isn't watered down like your normal scents.
