scent question spitting

OK,of those of you who dip snuff do you spit in a bottle and or spit on the ground and do deer smell it and are alarmed?

Used to just spit on the ground but always figured it negatively affected the area.

Now I carry a bottle every hunt.

I dip and spit straight on the ground. I have never had a deer seem to notice. Who knows if there are deer that dont come in because of it but there has never been anything I have noticed.

I have never noticed a difference. U gotta think, even spitting in a bottle, every time u take the lid off its puffing that scent out. I can smell it so I know they can. I try to keep a bottle but it's never bothered the deer even though I did scare one off putting the lid back on once.

I would beg to differ with your dentist on that one. Smokeless tobacco has about 30 chemicals in it and a lot of those are carcinogens. Pretty sure no one ever got cancer from cabbage. Exactly the opposite. Some studies have shown that eating large amounts of cabbage actually decreases the risk of prostrate cancer! Might make you a little gassy but otherwise harmless.

Never had a deer spook from snuff... Had a LOT lick the leaves at the base of the tree, however... might be considered bait

Most of you are a lot smarter than I am when it comes to deer, but my thinking has always been deer are only concerned with what smell they associate with danger. If they ever got a good smell of dip then spooked they may stay away from that smell again. Think of all the different smells in the world. If they ran ever time the smelled something they wouldn't ever stop.

At the end of the day no matter if it is dip, cover sent, sent away, or whatever else concoction a hunter comes up with, if a deer can smell it then it also can smell you...period. If that happens then the game is up.

IMO opinion unless the deer have associated the tobacco smell with human scent/danger you wont see much negative reaction. The movement involved with spitting is more of a problem in my eyes.
