Scent Drag

Do any of you all use a scent drag; if so, do you have any tips.

I'm a non scent user, I go in the woods and don't want to add any scent or make anything seem out of the norm for the deer (not sure why - just seem to have better luck like this). Yesterday I tried a scent drag(this was given to me with some doe pee) for the first time in my life. I walked about 100 yards down a field line - turned into the woods and headed up a hill about 10 yards. Heard some leaves crunching behind me and at 10 yards was 4 point buck coming right at me with his nose buried to the ground! I hunkered down and he walked right by me at 5 yards, his mind was on one thing. I'm sure this isn't typical results, first time luck. He got the pass, just curious if others has had luck using drags or scents (attractants). Is there any tips or tricks?

I dont expect a buck to come charging in for it. I mostly just use it for a cover scent. Little on the boots and maybe a scent stick on a limb.

I don't use them like I used to but still do on occasion. I've had decent luck bringing bucks in but I've never had a mature buck follow a drag line in. I have had young bucks come all the way to my tree. After the drag I hang my drag from a limb and I have had mature bucks pick up that scent and come in. I try to hold the line out away from me so that a deer won't be walking directly in my steps.

I did something I usually don't do Sunday morning. I am like the OP I don't like putting any extra scent where I hunt, but for some reason I put some golden estrous on the bottom of my boots just like my dad used to long time ago. Got in the stand and probably 20 minutes later at about 6 am I heard a limb break and I could see a deer creeping through the woods and stopped right where I walked in, I think his curiosity got the best of him because he hung around just long enough to give me a shot. Ended up being a 4.5 or 5.5 year old 10 point coincidence who knows. First time he was seen in daylight hours and never had a picture of him other than between 12 and 3 in the morning.

I dont use a drag scent anymore but I do use esterous doe scent during primary and secondary rut weeks because I've seen so many deer come to it with their noses in the air. They will walk figure 8 patterns trying to find it.
I've been using Code Blue esterous gel this year and spreading it on limbs at my eye level so it disperses quicker through the woods. Sometimes I will also spray Tinks esterous doe spray on a spot on the ground where I want to stop a deer.
Interestingly, sometimes esterous doe scent will bring in does as well.
