There was a sliver of moon hanging low in the eastern sky when I climbed into my stand this morning. It was 51 degrees.... a far cry from when I hung it just 4 days ago when it was 97 degrees. I loved it! I set up off a grown up road running N and S through the timber from an overgrown cutover. I was about 60 yards from the cutover and really expected the deer to be traveling the edge. Wouldn't you know it, 60 yards the opposite direction a doe crossed. Never had a shot. A few minutes later a couple of bucks; one about 100" and the other 120" headed my way and crossed over almost the same spot as the doe. They were followed by another doe that did the same thing. Before I came down I had a buck headed my way up the road, He looked like he'd go 130-132". I wouldn't have shot him given the opportunity but I didn't have to even think about it because he stepped off about where all the other deer did. None were spooked. I moved my stand about 60 yards down from where I was this morning and I'll try it out in the morning. Other than that I moved a camera but had nothing worth writing home about on the card. I saw a few acorns and caps on the ground but still haven't seen any heavy mast crop anywhere. A cold front and maybe some wind and rain should have them dropping.

Good luck! Cool temps will hopefully work in your favor.

Not this morning. 1 small buck, 3 does, and a fawn. The only shot I had was at the fawn and I don't intentionally shoot them. I found my first scrape of the year even if it means nothing so far. Pre-climbed a couple of trees for rifle season and looked around some. Maybe next trip.
