From what I hear the Savage smokeless blows them all away.
My Omega is good enough for me, but does anyone shoot the Savage?

Is it difficult to clean?

What makes it so accurate at longer distances?

There are a bunch of us here that shoot the Savage.

Mine cleans in 15 minutes or so - but I am anal about cleaning.

Remove the bolt retaining screw. Pull the bolt out. Remove the breech plug. Clean barrel. Re-install breech plug and bolt. Done.

I really only clean when testing loads. Otherwise, I may not clean one of mine for several years.

Mine are accurate at longer distance because of practice. I don't shoot much anymore at 100, I start practice at 200 and go to 300.

My furthest kill is at 326 and was made from practice at 300. 400 is my goal now-

Although the Savage is my preference, I really believe that if you put in the time, any of the better muzzleloaders could make kills further than most believe. All your doing is measuring drop at a known range - its pretty easy if you practice. If your're going to shoot further than 200, you really need 1) a good range finder and 2) good optics with M1 dials or target turrets -

I chose the Saavge mainly because I hated cleaning after every range session / shot in the field.

I have a friend who shoots a Remington 700 ML.
Not suer what it's called,but it has a bolt,and looks like a 700 rifle.
Is the Savage similar to this gun?

His is a pain to clean. Is the Savage the same?

a 300 yd. ML just blows my mind.

I would say the fact of it using Smokeless powder. It is a regulated pellet size and burn rate, unlike most BP powder.

Personally, I can have my Omega torn down and cleaned and reassembled in 15-20 minutes tops all day long. (cleaned very well I might add.

The Savage is basically no different than any other smokeless rifle you already own as far as cleaning.

I owned a 700ml before the Savage. The only hard part about cleaning it was diassembling/re-assembling the bolt - other than that, it cleaned up almost as fast.

However, you had to clean it every time you used it. I do not have to clean my Savages every time they get shot.

I have one .50 that has not been cleaned in three years. Last year I used it to take two or three deer - and I put it up after the last deer.

I could load it up with a 250 sst and SR-4759 and go kill one in the morning. However, it will be staying home this year-

I have not cleaned my Savage other than removing the breech plug in 5 years. There is simply no need in it. They are 500-600 FPS faster than other ML and they are very accurate. They are the best ML on the market. No cloud of smoke, just dead deer.

Why don't we all shoot them?
I knew the Savage name,but never knew about their ML until 2 weeks ago.
I owned a Savage .06 that was crap. I thought Savage was crap.

Like most company's Savage was no different, they had a really great product back in the early days. They either sold out or shipped all production overseas and it turned to crap. Then they started a comeback with a few core items, a decent bolt action slug gun and the heart of the line the smokeless muzzleloader.

I have been aware of the gun for some time now, just cautious of the name and bugs it might have with shooting the smokeless powder.

All seems fine so far, if I hadn't bought my Omega last yr. I would probably go for one. I only hunt one maybe two weeks a yr with it. So, I am happy with the Omega.

I bought my Omega SS, camo, Nikon Omega scope from (highway, a tndeer forum member) 2 weeks ago.

The scope isn't all that hot, but I like it.

It looks like TC made a great gun with what I have seen so far.
Real solid gun.

I have one, a first generation ML II with the standard trigger. I've been shooting this one for five years now. The Savage is like no other ML out there. Worth the money, heck yeah in my opinion. It's more like reloading than muzzleloading because of all the options available to you in bullet and powder combination. I swab the barrel about every ten to fifteen shots, break it down and clean it every 60 shots and replace the vent liner every year, Savage recommends the vent liner to be replaced every 180-200 shots. Since I don't shoot mine that often I go ahead and break it down every year and give it a thorough cleaning and a new vent liner. Sportsman Store in Dickson has the blued synthetic stock ones on sale for 499 right now. I've taken deer at 200 yards with mine and won't hesitate to shoot one that far again. I've thought about getting a new one with a thumb hole stock and accutrigger but hate to part with something as dependable as the one I have.

You all are killing me. I want a new SS ML-II so bad. I'm still shooting a Knight MK-85 that's put a lot of deer down for me. I just dread it when I have to clean it.
