Not that familiar with Savages or Stevens rifles, but was told the other day, all you had to do was swap bolts out to change from .473 bolt face to .223. Is that true and how does that work? I know it is not true on Rems. and Wins. or the old ones that I have been around.

If. 473 is the 308 family bolt face (to lazy to look it up) you need bolt face and extractor. Also if you have a built in magazine; the mag box, mag spring, and mag follower are different.

If I'm not mistaken each bolt is made for each action. I don't think you can swap bolts on a savage. But your question may not have anything to do with this. But on my savage the last 4 digits of my serial number are stamped on my bolt.
