ok before i buy in on it i have a few questions.

what is the average cost difference in black powder and gunpowder?
is it really worth the money?
are they 209 primers or something else?
are they accurate?
do i need a stainless barrel?
i ain't a gun fanatic but have liked what everyone has said on here about theirs.

i am interested in the velocity and k.e. distance is not an issue for me as i have never shot a deer over 52 yards in my life.

what is the average cost difference in black powder and gunpowder? Gun powder is a bit cheaper but that in my opinion should not be the reason to sqitch or to by the Savage.

Either will kill a deer but only one requires cleaning whenever season is done only one will reach out 300 yards with ease, only one kits the KE that is unreal.

Heck yeah once you work up the right load for your gun.
I use N120 at 60 grains, a harvester black crushed rib sabot, and a 300 grain barnes original. Deadly and accurate. there are many othe combos people will swear by.

do i need a stainless barrel?
Ive read the blue barrel are a bit more accurate, dont know if its true. Im quite happy with my stainless.

i have the stainless and everything volsgo said is true. I don't think the stainless is that big of a deal i just like it. You should be able to find a used one on Dougs Savage Message board for around 400.00 to 500.00
 
savage equals no smoke.
shoots great with the instructions book loads.
cheap to shoot.
shot mine 30 times no cleaning.
3shot group less than an inch with factory suggested load.

sorry but i cant get enough of my new 10ml 2. gonna carry it this weekend cause it groups better than my browning a-bolt.

I carried mine all the first year I got it too! Not because it will outshoot my rifle, but simply because I love it so much! As long as we are 200 yards or less, I dont feel handicapped at all in comparision to any other centerfire rifle.
 
Aside from all the other benefits I like the idea of being able to see what happens at the shot. Several times, especially when it's cold, the smoke from blackpowder has totally kept me from seeing whether the deer dropped, ran, or even which direction he ran.
 
I have killed three with my new savage tis week. Great blood trail and no smoke. love mine so far!
 
I am a little late on this, but all I will add is I have dropped everything I have hit in it's tracks.

My biggest problem is remembering the speed and ballistics. I am 2" high at 50 yards and flat at 150. I have got a bad habit of guessing the wrong yardage and aiming too high at say 130 yards and shooting over the shoulder.

Mine is stainless with a laminate stock and Leupold 3x9x40

I only wished I had bought one before going through the 3 BPs I had before....
 
1. Distance as I hunt beanfields a lot
2. Energy produced by impressive velocities
3. Cleaning/maintenance

I killed seven with mine and haven't done anything but pull the bolt and wipe it down two mornings after hunting the rain. Haven't had time to experiment with it, so I'm shooting same load as DA. It's impressive.

Cons: heavy and awkward competed to a small MZ

DA and others may disagree, but mine kicks more than my 300mag and 7mmmag (wherever it is) put together. Don't notice it a bit in the woods, but on the bench has been pretty rough. Maybe it's something simple like poor form.

TX Question

Does yours have the 3rd screw?

And do you fire a settleing shot after removeing the bolt? Assumeing you took it all way out. ;)

Mine doesn't have the 3rd screw and after removeing the bolt needs to be fired 1x and it is back on.

Mine doesn't kick that bad but I never shot that load nor bullets over 250grs either,which can make a big differecne.However I did change the factory hard as all get out pad out to a Packmayer Declerator much nicer.
 
Tiny, yes I'm assuning the bolt you're talking about is on the stalk in front of the trigger. No on the settling shot-don't know anything about it.

I'll get a Limbsaver for it before I shoot it at the range again. That should take care of it from what I've read.
 
I've been thinking about adding a Savage to my collection. I've been seeing conflicting info, some places have barrels listed as 24" while others sites say 26". I've seen weights being 7-1/2 to 8-1/4 lbs. Is there models with 26" barrels? Does places like BPS have them to so i can look at them? Anyone know of a place with the best price so I can order a new one at?

I cant for the life of me, figure out why Savage made a MZ for ANYBODY that isnt smokeless! Looks like a HUGE liability issue to me sometime down the road!

Huntaholic-

Same gun, marketed to Cabela's (who would not sell a smokeless gun - ie 10ml2) as "BP only".

If anyone has any doubts, buy it and I'll shoot it.

FWIW, I wuld rather find a used 10ml 2 for around $425 and work with that.

I will not ever buy another "new" 10ml2 - only for the reason that used is cheaper and just as good.
 
I SHOOT THE STAINLESS BARREL WITH THE LAMINATED STOCK ,MY WIFE SHOOTS THE BLUE BARREL WITH THE CAMO STOCK.HER GUN WITH THE SAME LOAD KICKS WORSE BUT NOT LIKE A 300 MAGNUM.

I would suspect it is because your rifle weighs more and absorbs more of the recoil.

I would suspect it is because your rifle weighs more and absorbs more of the recoil.
