I went to a friends farm near my house for this last chance to add a little more meat to the freezer.I took a Savage 99 in 300 Savage that I picked up at a gun show.I had never shot a deer with it,only targets.About 3:30 a group of 9 does came out of the woods.I picked this one out and shot at about 75 yards. She ran maybe 30 yards and piled up.Weighed 110 pounds field dressed.I think I will use the old 99 more next year.

I killed my first deer with my grandfathers 99/300....Remington coreloks was the only ammo I could find at the time. Did a great job.....

Not pregnant, just fat.I had to stop and clean my knife 3 times while dressing her.She had a solid roll of fat all around her belly. The deer equivalent of a beer gut. This farm raises corn, soybeans, pumpkins, and turnips commercially.Just too many groceries.

I'd congratulate you on the deer but can't stop envying you over your rifle. :) A model 99 chambered in 300 Savage is definitely deer hunting in style!

Love a 99 for sure!!! Had one in .308 but it was stolen along with 7 other rifles when my house was broken into 8 years ago. Never been found.
