Ok so my father in law has bought a rifle from one of his coworkers for my wife and I. Its a Savage 7mm. I'm not sure if it is the Mag or WSM or what. He is not sure either. All I know is that it is a bolt action Savage 7mm with a wooden stock, bipod, and a Swift 6-24x50 scope. I have never fired a 7mm, and am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of these rifles. Of course before I do fire it, I intend to have a gunsmith look it over. Does anyone know of a gunsmith around the Murfreesboro area? Also, what is the typical range of a 7mm? Apparently the guy that sold this rifle had it set up for some long shots with the bipod and large zoom scope. Any information would be appreciated.

I don't have the rifle yet. He lives in far east Tn and I'm in middle Tn. He said he will bring it when he comes down later this month. Just trying to figure out some basic information from him. I honestly know nothing of this rifle other than what I have posted so far.....

I am not so sure that will the gun for your wife, but then again I know a few girls it would phase in the least. I have a Ruger 7mm Rem. Mag, yes it has some kick to it, but I like mine and probably will never part with it.
If you or the wife are not into taking a good kick in the shoulder, then I would reconsider or trade for something with less recoil.

I will say this, I will never ask my wife to shoot my 7mm Rem Mag. And she enjoys shooting, but she don't like it kicking back.
400 plus yard shot is not for me but have seen first hand a shot at that range drop a deer in it's tracks.
 
I've seen grown men develope a terrible "flinch" with this magnum in a lite rifle. If it's for your wife trade it for one of the standard 6mm's.
 
Wellllll...its "supposed" to be for my wife. Hehehe. I think I'll need to shoot it for several, several years before she is ready for it. Plus the fact that she only weighs 120 soaking wet, and I think this rifle will flip her over!
