So I have the opportunity to pick up a one year old Savage 111 in 30-06 with the accutrigger system. Guy is askin 350 for it. Its in great shape. The sticker is still on the foregrip. Anyways. Was wondering if anyone out there has shot one, and what their impressions are. Its the GCNS model, wood stock. 3x9 simmons on it. The only other rifle I own is a Rem. 788 in .308

I shot this group with my Savage model 11 in 223 using factory Federal Premium ammo. Savage makes a great rifle that is known for accuracy and the accutrigger is very nice. They are reliable and are a good value for the money. I would trade the Simmons out for a different scope , but beyond that I think you would be very pleased.

My Savage Model 10 LE in .308 put 4 shots in 3/4" at @100 yards off of just a cheap bipod and no rear rest. Very accurate, likes the Hornady Match A-Max.
 
when shopping for the boy a rifle, we looked at several.he had it narrowed down to a browning a-bolt in 308 or the savage 111 in 7mm08. in side to side comparisons, the savage is/was a better built gun. wood-to-metal fit was better. bolt was smoother. the wood on the browning was much prettier but not worth the $300 difference in price. he has since hunted with that gun for 10+ years with never a regret on his choice.
 
Well thanks fellas. I think I am going to pick it up today. Will let you know my thoughts on it.

Just picked up my Savage!!!!!!!!!!!!! The action is so much smoother than my 788. The trigger. Oh my, the trigger. This thing is so crisp that wheat thins are jealous. No marks on it anywhere. Still got the factory Savage sticker on the foregrip. Blueing is immaculate. I am going to make this gun my personal match weapon. Will get a pic up shortly.
 
And as af as ammo goes, my Rem 788 loves the core lokt rounds....Lookin for more accuracy outta this one though...anyone have any advice on a good factory load?
 
I love my 111, and I'm confident you will to! Mine loves the "whitetail" 165gr core-lokt rounds. It will stack rounds at 200 yds on top of each other�it is the best, and least expensive, rifle I have owned.
 
I am surprised, the more reading I do on this thing, the more better they seem to be for the money. There is a bunch of guys online that customize em. I would like a bigger bolt handle. I can't wait to shoot it! Its' alot better built than my 788 would ever be.
 
I picked up a box of Federal 150's today. Just wanna see how it shoots really. I cleaned it this morning anf it only took about 5 swabs till no residue! This thing maybe had a box put through it. Remlubed it, and it is smooth as glass. Cycled about 5 magazines of ammo through it and the only complaint I have is the bolt knox is a little on the small side. Other than that, I think I got myself a winner.
 
Is there a bipod where I can not "pivot" but turn the barrel left and right while rested? in the case of a walking animal that might prove worth it if I can find such thing.
