Ruger or anybody know any guides in NW TN that guide hunters for Sandhill Cranes? I got drawn for a permit this year. I think it would be fun to see them work into decoys if we could round up 6-8 people with permits to kill them. Make it worth the trouble.

Re: Sandhill Crane

I hired the only guide in N/W TN that anyone could point me to. He was a nice guy, and we learned a lot that day. Didn't have much success, but with some group interest, I think he'll guide a traditional setup in a blind. I'll check back with him in a couple weeks. He wasn't ready to commit just yet.

If he doesn't work out, I know another guy in Martin that said he'd help out. Worst case, we buy a spread of Sandhill decoys, plop them in a field, and make honking noises with our mouths!

Re: Sandhill Crane

I put out a similar thread last year, and only got (1) PM about a recommendation. I'll send it to both of you. Perhaps with a little planning, we could work out a weekday in January when they'll be in the Martin area. According to my guide last year, the flock doesn't really start showing up until about Jan. 10th or later.

All I know is all around hop in headed towards maness they are in every field.
My plan was to get drawn then knock on doors.
Mans schedule changed and we never got to go.
I couldn't find a guide anywhere.

Re: Sandhill Crane

I got drawn last year and could't get anything together, never even tried hunting. Called a bunch of outfitters that said they would call me back if they had some to try, but never did.
