Sanctuary question

I'm hunting a property that is around 200 acres of open hardwoods with fields around the edges. Most of the timber is mature and open with a few spots that are thicker from select cuts years ago. I was wondering how many acres of sanctuary we need for them to be effective? Is it better to have one big section or few smaller ones? I know these sanctuaries need to be in areas where there is cover so we are thinking of cutting some timber to create them.

A large centrally located sanctuary probably works best biologically, but they are darn hard to hunt (too many ways into and out of the sanctuary). I prefer making lots of little sanctuaries scattered around a property.
