Saltwater fishing ?

Been watching fishing shows the last few days and when they are fishing the flats they got like white camo looking face masks they put on.

I have seen them wearing them while fishing as well as when they are running to another area.

Are they for protection from bugs and stuff (while running) or are they for "camo" so the fish aren't as likely to see the reflection of their faces?

Just curious.

If its what I'm thinking it is,I've got one that I wear when in Florida fishing that I wear for protection from the sun.I like it better than applying sunscreen,can't stand that "greasy" feeling on my face and neck.

did some googling on it, some people say there wear them when there in real clear water. thats about all i could find.

It's for sun protection. They have gloves made of that material too. If you read some of the saltwater fishing forums, there is usually a thread or two about skin cancer. It's fairly rampant among the hardcore fishermen in the gulf and southern Atlantic. I read Florida Sportsman on occasion and it comes up a few times a year on there.

They are made by a company called "Buff". They are sun protection and more inprtantly when fishing the flats you tend to run through swarms of bugs..... these keep the bugs out of your eyes, nose, and mouth.

I am sold on the "Buffs".....considering the end of the month I have to go get a Basal Cell Carcinoma cut off my neck that will take about a 3" incision. They take some getting use to but worth it. Every saltwater guide I have met lately is wearing them so I have switched over. Dumb looking but better than incisions or your life! PS..I just bought another called REDFISH that looks like scales.
