I'm guilty! I don't wear one. So... I'm looking for a small comfortable harness. Asking for your suggestions. Thank you
 
I have a Hunter Safety System Ultra Lite . I really like it. I see a lot of people talk highly of the Muddy Outdoors brand but have never tried them myself.

HSS also makes a vest style if you're interested in that for storage etc. I'm not big on a vest style because it's hotter and bulkier. Whatever you decide please do it quick, like before you climb again.
 
I bought the muddy crossover combo. You can get it at Cabelas for $104 plus tax during their employee pricing sale. It comes a really nice linemans belt and lifeline. It's high quality.
 
I used my black diamond harness for the first time tonight. It's amazing how free you feel compared to a body harness.

With that said...I have had the HSS ultralight for about 5 years and have no complaints. Just realizing the benefits of a climbing harness.

x2 on the muddy - I would buy the cheap version next time without all the bino/clips etc.... to many things attached can make noise. they call it the magnum its 49.00 and includes straps for climbing up the tree.
 
Like everybody, I use to not wear one. The year I started wearing one I fell asleep in a hang on, fell out and dangled 30' above a rock bed creek for a few seconds. Then I climbed back in the stand, prayed a little, and swore I would never go without. All that to say, next time may be the time you really need to have one on, so please get one asap.

I use the hss but there are better ones out there.
 
I wear one that looks like seatbelts. It's easy enough to put on and take off and I wear it all the time. Just a habit that you can get into that is easy enough to do.

kid about to graduate high school fell asleep in a ladder a couple years ago and fell out and died. Ladders are just as dangerous as any stand. There's 2 times you are most vulnerable to a fall - when you're afraid of falling, and when you think it won't happen to you. Would be smart for you to strap in, it really takes little effort at all.

I wear either a factory summit full body harness or a HSS vest harness.

I've been a paramedic for over 20 years and in that time I've encountered several hunting and tree stands accidents. A few years ago while I got a text that a friend had fallen from his stand and was on his way to Vanderbilt. They were attempting to fly him but couldn't due to weather and were having to take him by ground ambulance . Working that day I met him in the trauma bay at Vandy. That's when it hits home. When someone you know personally gets hurt doing something that you yourself have done numerous times and you see the pain and uncertainty in their face and you insert yourself and your family in their place it makes you think. Harnesses are cheap compared to ambulance rides, ER bills, surgeries, rehab, lost time from work, lost wages, and that's if you survive the fall.

You owe it to your family to wear a harness. It just takes one miscue and that could be prevented. Please wear a harness
 
I have some extra ones that came with a couple of ladder stands that are new. they have never been used. not sure what kind they are but I can look. you can have some and I will ship them to you if you want them. I think I have 4 if anybody need them

Summit includes (or at least used to) a non-camo version of this harness with their stands which are great as well. This one is easier to use with the belt pouch sewn onto the belt strap. It allows you to repack the harness after each use in the pouch where it is not tangled when you get ready to put it on the next time, and has storage for your tree attachment as well. It takes about 30-45 seconds to put the thing on, and it doesn't weigh very much.

I normally use one of the HSS vests because I do like the storage pockets for gloves, range finders, glasses to read Tndeer, etc. But, the SOP was my first GOOD harness and still makes the trips with me. If I have an extra long walk into a stand, I usually grab the SOP.

Well worth the money.
 
Black Diamond Vario Speed Harness. Wore a HSS for a long time, switched to this and won't go back. The biggest difference is in the way you fall and your position after the fall. Back to the tree vs. facing the tree.

There was a fatal tree stand accident last December in Dickson Co involving a ladder stand where the hunter was unrestrained.

I don't have anything against them just saying I didn't wear one...
I just got a new one and I'll have it on wed morning..

I've been wearing rock-climbing harnesses for years, and peach about them every year--they're cheaper, safer, tons more versatile and comfortable. Plus, I can remove/add top layers at will without a problem.

You can get them online from the manufacturers, box stores like REI and local climbing or outdoor/hiking outfitters.
