Normally I have several hundred decoys to paint and flock.
Blind to fix and brush.
Weights to tie on etc.

Guess I will fish more and concentrate on a few guided hunts.
Guess we been way lucky the last 5 years so I should count my blessings.
Good luck to everyone that drew a blind or have a spot to go.
 
I would bet there will be a few blinds or spots open at Gooch this season. If someone from out of town doesn't work on a current blind. Or most likely gets drawn for a spot with no blind and dose not put in a blind by November. It will turn into a boat blind spot.

Already hearing reports of "groups" getting 2, 3 or 4 different blind sites. Some trying to "gift" their gar holes off to others lol.
 
I suspect there will be some free for alls this season. I wouldn't let someone being in possession of a blind card keep me out of a blind unless they can prove that they are the person the card was issued to. Gifting/selling or whatever you want to call it is legally worthless unless you can make sure the person that drew the card is with you when you want to hunt. Just having the blind card is worthless unless the card holder is there with it.
 
What kind of identification does someone have to provide along with the blind card. Hunting license suffice or need like a drivers license or something similar?!
 
I know it is contrary to what the agency is trying to stop but I wish they would allow sign ons this year. There will for sure be heated arguments at blinds this year. Covid has opened the door for many other exceptions so I wish the agency would make an exception and allow sign ons. It would prevent a lot of bad situations this year. My biggest concern is the hoppers coming in before legal time to access the WMA. That to me is as bad as gifting cards and it will happen too.

Yep there will be more than a few people sleeping / hanging out / drinking in blinds overnight this year I can promise you that.
Almost unenforceable too, from a catching them standpoint.

So I am ignorant on all the state owned blind rules and etiquette but what time can you go in a blind? Then if you are in one and the guy who has the right comes in he can make you leave, but if it is just one person do you hunt together and make new friends or its mine and you can't play with my toys :)

Now I have never been in a blind but have drove by a lot in on the water but they look large enough for a few people. I was not lucky this year but I will start trying more each year but hope that if I get one some year and someone comes or is in it, I will make new friends. Exp if he has more decoys than I have :)

Every WMA I know of is no access until 4:00 a.m.
If a cardholder shows up BEFORE shooting light you have to leave.
Nobody else can make you leave. It is your blind till the end of legal shooting time that day.

Very few people will let you stay, most are my toys type of people.


Back a few years ago my son and his friend happened to go by one of the two best blinds at Gooch one morning 5 minutes after legal shooting time started and nobody was in it.
They couldn't believe their luck so they piled in there and started hunting.
About 30 minutes later a guy pulled up, who had drew the spot and owned the blind.
He said hey fellas, I ain't asking you to leave but would you mind if I put some stuff in the blind so I will have it tomorrow morning?
My son said this is your blind you do whatever you need to and unload your crap to hunt.
The guy said no, you beat me here so it's yours for the day.
The guy that was supposed to be there had overslept and the owner didn't get off work till 7:00 a.m. is what happened.
My son said no sir, I was not raised that way. You are either gonna hunt with us or we are leaving.
The guy ended up hunting with them, cooked them breakfast and told them any time they were there to swing by and as the people hunting that day got their limits they were welcome to pile in any time.

THAT is the kind of people I like to run into.

Personally I don't enjoy hunting with strangers whether its my blind or theirs but to each their own. Its either "thanks for the invite but i'll move on" or "please leave but have a good day".

You just never know what you'r going to get into. It could be a seasoned vet or could be a guy that breaks over all your brush in his stall, stares straight up at the ducks, throws his trash in the floor, has an unruly dog, and has a boat motor that won't crank at quitting time. He also may also not realize how a safety on a shotgun works and not think twice about shooting over your head with a 22" barrel on his turkey gun.

It's pretty much a non starter either way for me.

Yeah that's where I'd start. Contact someone high up as you can try and get the ball rolling.
 
I have contacted the commission. Hopefully it will go somewhere from that. Hopefully others have contacted or will contact the commission as well.

That's the best way for that situation to go- I had an annual spot on a not so great WMA up here in KY. Showed up late one day (and in piss pouring rain I remember) and a guy was in the blind. I told him we had drawn it but obviously it was his for the day, then I asked if he would mind if I hunted with him. Real good dude and he actually taught me a lot about the area and we hunted together several times over the next couple years. I know it doesn't always play out that way but if neither party is a Richard it can actually be a good situation.

I just sent the Commission an email about lack of Hunters Ed options this year. The Chairman responded almost immediately, and another member wasn't long after that.

They know there is a bunch of crap to adjust to with this COVID garbage, and at least they're responsive and open to dialogue.
