Sabot slugs in smoothbore barrels.

Can you use standard sabot slug - not the Hornady SSTs - in a smoothbore barrel that has the screw in chokes - safely?

Some chokes may be too tight to use with slugs. But you can get a choke that basically protects your threads

you can but they might not hit the broad side of a barn, they rely on rifling to stabilize & make accurate, there are some chokes that have rifling in them but ratings on them are poor,stay away from the titer chokes

Ditto, If I am not mistaken, Remington has a choke tube just for slugs, but like mentioned above..........poor accuracy reports. If you are set on using a shotgun for slugs, invest in a rifled barrel or in a NEF single shot slug gun(they are very accurate).

Ive got them up for sale or trade here - no sense going out in the woods with something inaccurate. In CT you need slugs for public land - I'd sold the gun I used with them and these are just sitting around. Thanks for the information though.

I prefer my .06 tackdriver.

Started using with browning A5 and shooting 2-3 in at 100 yds. with reound bore, in OHIO. Began using a browning 3 in choke with rifle barreling patterns got closer 1 in at 100 yds. Very accurate.
Used Winchester and rotwild brenieki slugs. Sorry for the typos
