hey guys and gals this is my 1st post on here. i hope i dont mess it up. im trying to figure out if the rut is on in East Tn yet? im in Roane county. the other day i was sitting on a ridge top and i rattled a little and threw in a soft grunt or 2 and about 30 seconds later a nice 8 pt ran by me cutting across the ridge. He wouldnt stop and give me a shot. im trying to figure out the right kind of calls to use right now cause i dont have a lot of time to spend in the woods and i wanna make the most of the time i have. thanks for you input in advance. My gut tells me if he was on the move like that it wasn't from your calling...it sounds like something spooked him and my experience tells me if your calling spooked him he would go the other way...also all the bucks I've called in were cautious on the approach...this deer sounds like he was getting outta dodge...to answer your OP deer are just like people IMO when it comes to noise...you may like the way one girl sounds while it may not entice me at all and vice versa...id say the best practice is to get a deer in range that you don't want to shoot and play around!!! I'm in Roane Co. and the rut is on....Bucks are sniffing nose to ground and tarsals stink but necks not swollen yet... I believe a small number of does are coming into heat, but the next 7 days should be awesome....

I'm in McMinn and it's just picking up over here. I saw on Facebook a local processor posted a pic of quite a few bucks brought in Sunday. Said they have been dropped of very little until Sunday. Don't be afraid to use any call. I've called in several small bucks rattling, grunting, and doe bleeting.
