Is the rut really going on now? I have almost always noticed the majority of chasing pretty much dead on the opening of Nov. Muzzy season. But lately after seeing the large increase in buck kills and the large buck killed in Cumberland county via car wreck (where I live and hunt), I am questioning whether they will still be chasing come the Nov. 13th quota hunt at Catoosa.

It should still be in the prerut. The rut in west TN isn't at full tilt until first of December.

First 2 weeks of December is best where I hunt in southern middle Tennessee, I see them chasing even after season closes. They're not even laying down any sign where I am yet.

Just getting going here should be wide open by the weekend

Middle to southern TN it always seems like middle of November to middle of December is when the true rut falls. One of the biggest bucks I have ever seen was chasing a doe the last week of January on the banks of Tims Ford lake though. I really believe the major rut happens about the same time each year regardless of temperature. Temperature just controls how much of it we actually see IMO. But I have encountered quite a few mature bucks chasing well after the season is over. I guess this could be because of the does that didnt get bred and come back in?
