I inherited a S&W Model 27 from my father in law. Unfortunately, he passed from Alzheimer's and as a result his firearms were not maintained or stored well for the past few years. What used to be a nice blued finish more has several rusty spots.
Any advice on the best way to clean up? I thought I might get it professionally refinished but it will never be a pretty gun again. I just want to stop the damage and prevent more.

Any weapon can be made to look great again, depending on how bad the rust is, and how much you want to do it. It can be as easy as stated above to getting it cerakoted.

I'm afraid the pitting may be too deep to fix. I am checking out one place that looks like they have done some nice work on some pretty rough stuff.

Turn Bull restoration can fix it to like new but it would definitely cost you a pretty penny
