Rust on gun

What's the appropriate way to handle a little rust on the outside of a gun barrel? What do you use to remove it?

I just noticed my Blued T/C Omega has a little line of rust where the barrel meets the composite stock.

Soft pencil eraser, then wipe off and oil.

Flitz paste works well also.

Works very well on surface rust, if it's pitted at all you will probably have to follow up with Flitz. I've used JB's bore paste on stainless, but never tried it on blueing.

If you haven't already done so, good ideal to take it out of the stock and see if theres more that needs taken care of.

I too like fine steel wool and a little good gun oil and rub lightly.

I USE A Copper penny also, as any steel wool will remove the blueing from the rifle.

I like to use a brass brush with oil. It doesn't remove the blueing and then after using there will be a coppery patina to the surface which can be removed with bore solvent.

I've got a nice brass brush (looks like a toothbrush) so I'll give that a try.

petroleum jelly use to work on chrome ,dont know if it will take the bluing off or not ,mike243

fine steel wool and oil. the rust has already removed some bluing.

steel wool is what i like it works good on good guns don't use on cheap guns or it will take the blueing off.

0000 steel wool is a polishing grit and done carefully with oil, wd-40 or equiv does a great job and shows little wear to the steel since it is so fine.

well i take and get me some 2 cycle engine oil for a chainsaw or something and find me a rag ad put some 2 cycle oil on it and rub it untill it comes off and then do the whole barrel under the stock and every thing but if you do the inside take an set it up side down on a rag where it will soak up the excess oil when it get to the bottom of the barrel and then before you shoot it take and swab it to get the rest of it out
