Rust Issue

I have an Encore with a little rust on the inside of the barrel. I've scrub it with a wire brush, used foam, cleaning solution and repeated the same procedure about 5 times. I'm still seeing a little rust in the barrel. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to get it back to the smooth side?

It might not be rust. You may have a pitted barrel.

After all you've done I would also say it's pitted. If it still groups well don't worry about it, you said it was a little. Just be sure to keep it real clean and lube it well during storage so it doesn't get worse.

I have heard and used J-B bore paste. It is like a very light buffing compound for your bore. I used it to reduce copper fouling. My findings were inconclusive but there were multible variables. Its pretty cheap and might be worth a shot.

Guys, what do you mean by pitted? I've never heard of it.

It is where little pieces of the barrel have actually corroded away, leaving minuscule pits in the wall of the barrel.

A gunsmith told me that if you use a cordless drill hooked up to your ram rod and a wire brush, that it will clean your barrel like you have never seen. He also told me to use mothers wheel polish to get fouling out and then just clean it with hoppes. I used the drill and brush on an old 30-06 with butch's bore cleaner.. the barrel looked immaculate!!
