Rule of Thumb?

Is there a rule of thumb for sighting yardage? The only place I have to go has only 25 yard lanes. It makes sense to me that I'm probably only dealing with a couple inches between 25 and 150 yards, but I don't know. And yes, I realize that there are a lot of variants. I'm using pyrodex pellets, 250 gr Powerbelts, 209s, from a Traditions Canyon .50. If there's a rule of thumb or a general estimation, I'd love to know it.

Actually a 25 yard zero would probably put you 2-3 inches or more high at 100

I'm thinking a lot higher than that. Especially if you have high mounts.

I checked with the spot on app. If you are using 100 grains of powder you'll be about an inch low. At 150 you'll be roughly 7.5 low and and at 200 you'll be about 20" low. And that's if your scope is mounted fairly low

if you cant shoot it at the distance you'd like to, dont head into the woods looking to wound a deer. Find a place that will allow you to shoot to 50-100 yards.

The thing about sighting in at close distance ifs the bullets first cruising of your line of sight is really close allowing the arc of the bullet to rise above the line of sight until it falls back in downrange. Strelok shows dead on with 1800 fps at .5 high at 100

Just go in the woods somewhere, away from your hunting spot, use a rangefinder to distance 100 yrds, put up a target, and see where you are. Then you know.
