Is the new Ruger AR any better than the other rifles offered by everybody else? Or is it just another AR? I'm wanting to get another AR and I'm just curious about this one. Thanks

It uses a slightly different operating system to allow it to have a true folding stock. I'm sure it uses a gas piston a short bolt but as far as being better, The only real improvement on the AR is the Gas piston system which drastically reduces heat in the action reducing fouling.I would get the new Sig 516.

I have the Ruger SR556. It's a very nice rifle compared to the other piston operated systems. There are basically no additions needed to the rifle except for optics.

Do you mean the Sig 556?

The Ruger feels great but I haven't got to shoot it. I'd really like to have a gas piston gun.
I was kinda disappointed when I tried the Sig. It didn't fit me well at all. I didn't get to shoot it either.

No.I mean the Sig 516. It is a new gun that is actaully an AR, unlike the 556 which only uses AR mags, It is a new gun that will be on the shelves shortly and msrp's @ $1300.It is a gas piston AR

I had an interesting morning today. I went down to pick up a few new arrivals and saw a blue gun case, instantly tagging it as a Sig. So I thought to myself, "Why are we getting our third 556 in the past three weeks?" I opened the box and realized...this isn't a 556, this is an AR! I ran up to the offices grabbed the Rifleman crew who assured me I wasn't going insane. The Sig 516 is the new AR. Here's a picture for you, but don't tell anyone because it doesn't exist.
Since we're talking about a new gun, here's what you need to know:
It's piston operated and has an adjustable gas regulator similar to the Ruger 556.
It has an ambidextrous safety.
Comes with Yankee Hill folding rear and front sights.
It's an AR.

This is off of American Rifleman and this gun is the cover gun for this month's magazine.

I just read up on the 516. Very interesting. The 516 upper can be put on any AR lower but the 556 cannot. I can see why Sig has jumped into the AR category, but this may hinder their 556 sales. Retail should be around $1050 to $1200. I just wonder if it will be as reliable as the 556.

In the article, they take the 516, throw it in a ditch, completely bury it in mud, and then empty a mag w/no failures of any kind.No one does more pre-release testing on their firearms than Sig.If it is a Sig and it is for sale, it is ready to be used.

I don't know. The Ruger looks cool, and it has a folding stock, but it's like $2000.To me it seems a bit much for an AR from a stock maker like Ruger.Pretty much an AR is an AR is an AR.I would just ensure you get one w/a gas piston. That is a real improvement.

The Ruger does not have a folding stock. It has a collapsable stock. I bought may Ruger SR556 for $1300. If you spend $2k on a Ruger you got ripped off.

You're right, I am confusing the Ruger for the new Para AR,It has a folding stock. The Ruger does however retail for $1,999.00. The Sig retails for $1300. If you got the Ruger for $1300 then good on you for gettin a good deal.
