ruger mini 14 scope question

i have a 223 ruger mini 14.today i went to mount a 3x9x 40 rifle scope on it and when i tight the ring tops they only got snug on the scope but still lose enough you could the scope in the rings with a littie force .never seen these before ,some one told me to put three or four layers of black tape inside the rings and retighten .will this work or should i do something else .?

Invest in some quality rings.

you saying the ruger rings are no good ??

Are you sure you have the correct rings for the tube................1" VS 30mm??????

I personally don't like Ruger rings. I have used them before on a Redhawk but had to lap them. A buddy of mine has used them on 2 rifles and had to lap them both. If you lap the rings you will see just how bad they are.
And as far as putting tape to make it fit I don't believe that would ever hold zero. But who knows I may be wrong.

no really i am not sure. to be honest just the rings that came with it and a scope i had picked up some where along the line i went ahead and mounted and put the tape in there .so far its holding fine but i plan on buying some new rings and scope done the line if i decide its a keeper. so far i have had some really tight groups up to 60 yards and i have always had a few wide ones but not what i would call bad ,seeing i just got the gun and have not yet learned the feel for it..
