Thinking about getting one of these in 260 Rem. Anyone have any experience with the Hawkeye Compact version? What kind of accuracy can I expect? I hunt hardwoods mainly with an occasional 250 yd shot presenting itself. I like the size for stand hunting....

I don't have any experience with the Hawkeye version, but I have two M77 compacts. My 260 gets MOA with handloads, and the 243 so far isn't quite as good, but I haven't had it long enough to work up a pet load.

I get about 160 fps less velocity in the short barrel than the published velocity.

You may have seen myu post with the video of shooting at the gong with mine... http://www.tndeer.com/tndeertalk/ubbthr ... w=1#UNREAD 300 yard shots on an 8" gong all day long.

Here's a pic of some of the three-shot groups when I was testing loads for the 260:

Have you played with any other bullet weights? I would think the 120-130 gr pills would be the berries in a 260. My 264 Win Mag loves the 130 gr Scirocco.

I wanted to use this rifle primarily in short range situations, so I concentrated on the 140 gr bullet. I have a box of 120 gr Nosler BT that I loaded half a dozen with AC 4064, but I haven't really spent much time on that load. In situations where I'd like a lighter, faster bullet, I'd probably use my Browning 270 WIN. It's actually a more accurate rifle than the 260.

I also have an 85 gr Coyote load that works pretty well.
