Thinking about getting the ruger American preditor in 6.5. Anyone have any experience with one?

Don't be afraid of a Ruger American my 308 is a flat out shooter. Don't let the price fool you. Now, know it's not a top of the line gun you will know what I mean when you feel the stock.

Re: Ruger 6.5 creedmoor

Recently purchase the Hawkeye Predator in 6.5. Nice rifle, the trigger pull was set at 2.5lbs from the factory. I did purchase a Timney replacement trigger in order to get to the 2lb pull I like and reduce the take up too about nothing. Ordered a Boyd thumbhole stock for it and glass and piller bedded the action. This thing will now shoot .5 MOA at 200 yards. Very smooth action, and I mounted a Vortex Viper 6-24x50 SFP scope using the Ruger 30MM rings. Can't wait to whack a big buck with this thing this winter:)

I had an American 308 as well it shot very well. Like the fact that the predator is threaded. Also that it doesn't break the bank as this one has to go under the wife's radar because of the last 2 purchases [emoji6]

Re: Ruger 6.5 creedmoor

I have one in 6.5 creedmoor, good rifle for the money, mine shoots tight groups with 120gr bts and varget. I'd say my savage accutriggers are a little better but not much.

Re: Ruger 6.5 creedmoor

I bought a Predator in 6.5 CREEDMOOR last October. Shot two deer and a coyote with factory American Whitetail 129 gr interlocks. This spring I worked up a couple of MOA loads with 140 gr Speer Hot Core and also with Speer 90 gr TNT varmint.

Then a few weeks ago I bought another Predator in 243. I'm still working up a varmint load for it, but so far have shot a few sub-MOA loads with 70 gr Nosler BT Varmint bullets.

Both guns are really nice values. I noticed that the trigger is a bit smoother in the 6.5, the Safety and the magazine are a little smoother in the 243. But they are so similar that if I had only either one of the rifles I wouldn't have complained about either. If I bought another sub-$500 rifle I'd get another Predator or a Ranch. I've shot a buddy's Savage Axis and I wouldn't give $200 for it. The trigger (not an Accutrigger) was terrible.

I have one of the Savage 11/111 in 6.5 creedmoor , you need to look at that gun, before you buy the Ruger...
