In the second picture, it's kinda hard to see but there's a scrape under that cedar........same place every year. But if u look closely at the cedar itself u can notice some rub marks and gouges. Is that a rub or just accidental from making the scrape. The reason I'm asking is because that tree is no baby, it's about the size of a 5 gallon bucket.
 
He might have just barely hit the tree if it has gouges. Just because it's big doesn't mean he wouldn't rub it

Yeah but I'm not as interested in the gouges as the possibility of it being an actual rub. And yes I've seen rubs on trees this large, but they were more defined and not on my place unfortunately. The lack of definition is what is throwing me for a loop. Prolly just wishful thinking.
 
Most likely not a rub in my opinion. We have alot of cedars that look like that. It's just the way cedar bark looks.

Yeah I know what your saying and that has been my thought all year but upon closer investigation. That one particular area is the only part of the tree that looks that was the rest of it is pretty consistent. Is it just coincidence that the part of the tree that looks to be rubbed happens to by directly in front of a scrape and broken limbs?
 
Bigtex, I just read up on signpost rubs. I'm 100% convinced that's what it is, thanks. Makes sense after reading that even though it's on a large tree doesn't mean it's a large buck, contrary to a real rub.
 
Cedar bark does some weird things so it's hard to tell without looking up close in person and seeing if there are actual gouges where tines scraped into the tree or if it's just bark coming off.
