Ok. For everyone that starts finding rubs. Would you be so kind as to put on here what kind of tree it is and how big. I think that by doing this we can start to get a general idea of where the bucks like to be this time of year. I think this kind of data would be useful in the future.

Most rubs I find this early are around field edges.

No difference in species of tree rubbed from this time of year and later. Small rubs are on whatever is around. Signpost rubs are a different story.

Some of the first rubs and many of the first scrapes I find are around field edges. I don't put alot of store in them like I do when I find them in timber or thick areas. Still, when you're hunting on a field edge and 7 bucks at the same time ranging from 100"-120" are standing under the tree you're sitting in raking the branches and working the scrapes underneath you can't help but drool a little, lol.

I second that! But for mature deer in my area, you have to be a good 100+ yards from any field

Yesterday I found a new rub--bark still fresh under the tree--on a thumb sized maple near the junction of two ancient roadbeds/deer trails deep in the woods, along the top of a finger ridge topped with young pine and grapevine thickets, with white oaks off the sides and on the neighboring ridges. I picked a tree within bowshot of the junction. ;)

While setting up a blind this past weekend I found a 4 inch diameter tree rubbed about 3 feet up. searched in all directions and I think I found the trail he is using. Moved the blind about 10 feet to get a better angle. Better yet, I found others from last year and older. Kinda raised my blood pressure a bit.
