Read you article in Tennessee Wildlife on the Brook trout habitat. Have you encountered any rattlers and/or copperheads in those areas? Sounds like prime snake areas to me.

Sure, I've crossed paths with a few copperheads and a couple of rattlesnakes over my many years tromping such woods. But not enough to concern me.

Kind of like bears... make some noise and they're going to get out of your way. And if you see them, LEAVE THEM ALONE!

The majority of folks get bit when they start trying to mess with snakes versus just "walking away."

Well, I am not particularly scared of them either, as I have pretty good numbers on my own place. I was just curious about the pitching off down the mountain thru the rocks that you described in your article, because I have always read that those mountain areas, steep, rocky, on headwaters creeks with not much people activity usually house healthy populations. I wouldn't mind going after some brookies, but fighting the terrain that you mention for 6" fish is kinda shaky for me. I've had too many birthdays, and would like to have a few more! Not to mention the 800 mile round trip. LOL

I enjoyed that article. I rarely get to sit down and read the publication but I really did enjoy this one.

I wouldn't mind going after some brookies, but fighting the terrain that you mention for 6" fish is kinda shaky for me. I've had too many birthdays, and would like to have a few more! Not to mention the 800 mile round trip. LOL

in most of the wild brookie streams, a 6 inch fish would be a monster. average is closer to 4 inches.
however, the caney fork, clinch and obey rivers now have brookies that i expect to get quite large.

Well, is they are the same "little girls" that I've seen standing waste deep in water holding muy grande flatheads, then they are a whole lot tougher than this old man! LOL
