I've never really had the urge to own an AR but my brother in law bought one last week and we shot it this weekend and now I've got the itch.

Kind of narrowed it down to the Rock River Arms Varmint or the Stag Model 6 Varmint. Stag is cheaper but the RRA seems to be a little higher quality. Any suggestions from you AR gurus?

Ive got a Stag model 2 and a 7h. Both are are great rifles. Wouldnt hesitate to buy another Stag rifle. Nothing wrong with RRA either. Pick whichever you like best.

I got my 7h from Pete at AR15sales.com They have great prices and deal mostly with Stag and RRA.

Interesting timing. I was asking about the Stag Arms 6 varminter on another forum recently and couldn't find anyone who even owned one. I did find out they are basically a 10 pound rifle without a scope but no one could tell me if they could shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards as promised by the maker. Wished I could of found out more because I really wanted to buy one.

Thanks for the info Deerhunter.

And you're correct Snowwolfe, the Stag is heavy with it's 24" barrel. That was one thing that made me lean more to the RRA. It is available in different barrel lengths.

I recently bought a Rock Rivers ATH and it is one of the best shooting out of the box rifles I've ever owned. I can cover a 5 shot group at 100 yards with a penny.

What barrel are you thinking about?

I started out thinking about the 20 inch but over on Predator Masters they kept talking about how heavy it was and I really didn't want a 16 inch barrel since I already had one. One of the members pointed me to the Rock Rivers ATH with a lapped Wylde SS barrel. Hornady Superformance 53 gr V-Max puts 5 shot group at 100 yards inside a penny. I love the thing and I take it coyote hunting every day. I'll be able to pick up my suppressor for it this summer.
