on the wings of a snow white dove
when I sent my mold back to Buffalo Arms for inspection, the dude that made the mold inspected, did some minor stuff, gave me a call and sent the mold back.

in his phone call he stated that I had gotten mold to hot since the sprue washer was flattened out

with my returned mold I am now back casting, I have not casted a frosted boolit since the mold was returned

with no frosted boolits, can I go on the basis that I am not getting mold to hot, my sprue plate seems to loose after 4 casting sessions and I am scared to tighten it a 1/4 turn

this would probably be a lot easier for me if I was not a green horned rookie at casting, I am just trying not to screw up a $122.00 mold again
 
If you have no wrinkles in your boolits (to cool) and no frosted boolits, you are keeping the mold at "its" good working temp. If you start getting frosted boolits, slow down your tempo, or place the mold on a damp rag for a few seconds or get a small fan.

If you are getting no fins on the boolits or lead smears on top of the mold (under the sprue), the sprue plate should be tight enough. To tight and it may not vent properly. Havnt heard of a washer flattening due to being to hot, but that is more than likely based upon my experience level (still in the novice stage), and never having dealt with a Buffalo Arms mold.
 
There are several types of sprue washers. For example, some makers use a split washer that applies some degree of tension when you tighten down the sprue screw. Of course these washers have been tempered to give it some "spring". Maybe he meant you got it too hot and it lost the temper.

Some moulds also have a little set screw that tightens down on the sprue screw when you've gotten the sprue plate working properly. This little "set" screw prevents the sprue screw from backing out.
